Aboubacar Ballo in Cast of Godspell Production at Cazenovia College

The Catherine Cummings Theatre at Cazenovia College's production of GODSPELL: A Musical Based Upon the Gospel According to St. Matthew, on two weekends, Nov. 11 - 13, and Nov. 18 - 20, is playing to packed houses. The Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., the Sunday shows are at 3 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for ages 18 and under. For more information, call Colleen Prossner at 315-655-7238.

The cast is made up of students from Cazenovia College, and Cazenovia and Fayetteville-Manlius high schools. Aboubacar Ballo, of New York, N.Y., is a sophomore majoring in communication studies at Cazenovia, and plays the role of Apostle.

The production is directed and choreographed by David Lowenstein, artist in residence at Cazenovia College. The music director is Roy George. Producer is Colleen Prossner, theatre manager. The theatre is at 16 Lincklaen St. in Cazenovia. The lead role, Jesus, is played by Nick Ziobro of Manlius, N.Y., a sophomore at Fayetteville-Manlius High School in Manlius.

Conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell is one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time. Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love.
