Martine Angell is Studying in England

2010 Sep 23

Martine Angell, of Holland Patent, N.Y., is one of 25 Cazenovia College students selected to study at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) in the United Kingdom during the fall semester of 2010. Angell, a graduate of Holland Patent Central High School, Holland Patent,N.Y., is working toward a bachelor of science degree, majoring in liberal studies .

Since the first group of Cazenovia students traveled to CCCU in 2005, new groups have become fully integrated into Canterbury Christ Church's curriculum and residence life programs every fall semester. Students are accompanied by a faculty advisor from Cazenovia College, who is their mentor during the semester. This year's advisor is Dr. Warren Olin-Ammentorp, professor of English at Cazenovia.

Dr. Mark J. Tierno, president of Cazenovia College, says, "Our students enjoy a cross-cultural experience, fully integrated into the Canterbury Christ Church University curriculum and residence life programs. They are living in University housing together with British students, and students from British Commonwealth nations. These Cazenovia students are truly attending a British institution, not an American institution located in England."

Tierno urged the students to expand their understanding of the global community through participation in the British system of higher education, as well as through accompanying social and cultural experiences.

Through the relationship with CCCU, Cazenovia College students live and study in England, with numerous opportunities to travel in the United Kingdom and in Europe. Since 2005 more than 100 students have taken advantage of the program, and several students have chosen post-graduate opportunities in the United Kingdom based upon their study-abroad experiences.

This international study experience takes place during the fall semester and is recommended for the junior year. The program is selective; students must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher at the end of the previous academic year, must be recommended by a faculty member and the dean for student life, and complete an application process before being accepted into the program.

Cazenovia College, named one of "America's Best Colleges" by US News & World Report, is an independent, co-educational, baccalaureate college. Located near Syracuse, N.Y., Cazenovia College offers a comprehensive liberal arts education in an exceptional community environment, with academic and co-curricular programs devoted to developing leaders in their professional fields.
